Our Select basketball program is designed for those interested in a competitive environment where the goal is to improve individual and team skills well beyond the recreational level.

Participation in the Select program requires a significant commitment of time, energy and financial resources. Our season kicks off with voluntary participation in the Lion League run by the Boys High School Program hosted on Sunday nights during September & October. Try-outs typically take place mid-October with team selection posted shortly thereafter. Our teams generally begin practicing the 2nd week of November. Practices will generally be 2x/week with the potential of additioal practices based on gym availability and coaching schedule. Games (tournament play) may begin as soon as coaches choose to do so.

Our program competes in tournament play across the Portland Metro area. On occasion, coaches may choose to enter tournaments in places such as Salem, Eugene, Corvallis, Seaside or potentially Seattle. With the boards' guidance, our coaches will self-schedule tournaments over the course of the season suitable for the team. Many of the tournaments over the course of the season are "qualifiers" for the 5th-8th Grade State Championships held in Bend, Oregon each March. Many of our teams will conclude their season in Bend (1st or 2nd weekend of March)

Tyler Toney and Jared Curtis, the West Linn High School varsity Boys & Girls coaches, are advisors to the Select program. Both are heavily involved with try-out facilitation, player evaluation and team selection. Board members and non-parent coaches are also involved with player evaluation and team selection during the try-out process. Tryouts are closed to parents.

WL Select teams will focus on skill development and player development of all participants. Each player will play in each game, however, playing time may not be equal. Our goal is that each player plays a minimum of 10-12 minutes per game.

The Select fee for the 2017-2018 season will be $425 per participant. This covers gym fees, use of necessary uniform for the season (uniform will be collected at end of season, please do not alter the uniform with player name), up to 10 tournaments per team as well as State Tournament fees if qualified, and all other necessary costs to run the organization. Financial assistance is available for those in need.
